EricEParticipantMake a request. They DO read them (and no, it’s not just an intern!). You may not always know, but they do read them – I’ve actually gotten feedback (even though they don’t promise it).

Alex – NetSpotKeymasterWe had feedback. And it was a negative one.

rdahlinParticipantI really like this application and I’m sad that Apple has decided to do what ever they can to disable any chance to get WiFi data from iOS.
I have a “future feature” on the OSX version though.
It’s perfect to be able to read signal strength and other values from many SSID’s but I’d like to add actual bandwidth measurements to at least one SSID using iperf and make a map for the results from this measurements too. Is this feature possible to add to a future version ?

Active wireless surveys are definitely on the roadmap. Stay tuned.

nestornativoParticipanthi,
any additional news about Netspot on Ipad?
Thanks a lot. Regards.

Alex – NetSpotKeymasterNot yet, sorry.

TnIanParticipantNetspot on iPad would be the uber-shizz, but, like you say, that’s probably never going to happen.
That being the case, have you given any thought to Android? I keep an old Android handset in the toolbag for that very reason. I love iOS, but the lack of a wireless API makes it a crummy network tool.
I’m not a programmer, so I have no idea how much of a hassle that would be. I imagine you wouldn’t be able to re-use any existing code. Just thought I’d toss the idea out there, though.

TnIanParticipantWhoops, sorry, just saw your post on the subject in the help section. Glad to hear you’re considering the platform. And thanks for developing NetSpot for the Mac – it’s fantastic software.

Alex – NetSpotKeymasterThanks, TnIan! I’m sure NetSpot for Android will become available some day. We are definitely interested in this platform, however, we are kind of concentrated on updating Mac version to a more mature version that matches many corporate standards these days. So, just stay tuned. We will have the Android version asap!

vanfrunikenParticipantWhat if NetSpot OSX would allow getting data from an Airport Express (configured as wireless repeater), which you could stick in various mains outlets around the house.
Even better, if the Airport Express would be plugged into a long mains extension cord, then we could take the Airport Express for a walk, while the NetSpot OSX app would be scanning.
If necessary, there might be an Airport Express configuration which is best suited to make it serve as a slave WiFi scanner.

Alex – NetSpotKeymasterIsn’t that what survey snapshots are for?

borjamParticipantNetSpot for iOS wouldn’t be able to scan for wireless networks, that’s right. But you can still support several brands of wireless access points, and at least some of them can give you client statistics via SNMP.
The Airport Extreme MIB is available, for example. And it should be easy to do with other common router brands as well.
I think that´s what the previous user, vanfrunken, means.
It could be very useful.

Unfortunately, this won’t work. SNMP is not enough to collect the needed data about signal levels, etc. Assume you have 100+ APs in the area, even if you could poll 10% of them via SNMP, you won’t have a usable heatmap in the end.

RoyRParticipantIf apple won’t have you then why not develop an Android version? This would be a great app to run on a mid size tablet such as the Nexus 7

Alex – NetSpotKeymasterAndroid version of NetSpot is definitely on our roadmap.
