FAQ: NetSpot and Bluetooth radios

We keep getting questions about using NetSpot for troubleshooting connections over Bluetooth. And we wanted to make an official statement regarding that functionality.

Get started with NetSpot WiFi tool for macOS

Bluetooth IconIf you are looking for the way to troubleshoot interference of Bluetooth devices with your existing WiFi network, then NetSpot can help. You can easily identify Bluetooth connections influencing your WiFi speeds using Zone Snapshots, or just analyzing visualizations about Noise.

However, if you are looking for a way to analyze interference among Bluetooth devices, then it’s far more complicated, because there’s no way to configure Bluetooth channels. All Bluetooth devices constantly change channels automatically to prevent any possible interference.

Mac OS does provide APIs to access and partially manage Bluetooth devices. However, there’s no way to determine the signal strength of devices you are not connected to, and you can only manage visible devices (not the hidden ones). In addition, it’s hardly possible to determine their location.
