FAQ: Are results directional – that is, if I turn the laptop one way or another does that affect results?

It’s true that the direction of your Wi-Fi adapter’s antenna influences the scanning results, but it’s a negligible influence. In fact, the difference in signal no matter which way your turn your laptop will only be a few decibels. So don’t worry about it. It won’t have any meaningful impact on your survey results. When NetSpot places a new sampling point on the map, it actually takes 3 measures, approximates them, and saves the received data for further processing. We doubt it would be more useful if we asked users to point their laptops in the same direction each time they took a new sample.
